NEET UG Round 3 Vacancy 2026 — Every Seat MCC Has Put Back on the Table

MCC published the Round 3 vacancy on 23 September 2026, the day choice filling opened, and re-issued revised files on 25 September 2026 — this page uses the revised set. 6,191 seats are clear vacant across 605 institutes — 5,480 MBBS, 597 BDS and 114 B.Sc Nursing. A separate virtual-vacancy file carries 10,808, and 183 seats are new to this round. This page breaks the file down by who holds the seats, where they are and what that means for your options now that choice filling has closed (noon, 28 September) and the result is due on 30 September.

6,191clear vacant seats

Clear vacancy and virtual vacancy are two different counts, and adding them is meaningless. Clear vacancy (6,191) is what is free today. Virtual vacancy (10,808) is MCC’s projection of what allotment will actually have to work with once candidates seeking an upgrade vacate their current seats. Nationally the virtual figure is the larger of the two, but not college by college — 73 colleges show a smaller virtual figure than clear, and 6 appear in the clear file with no virtual entry at all. Read both columns for any college you care about, and never quote 6,191 + 10,808 as a total.

How much smaller Round 3 is

Round 2 opened with 11,302 clear vacant seats. Round 3 opens with 6,191. That is 5,111 seats absorbed in one round, and it changes what a realistic choice list looks like: the colleges that were comfortably reachable three weeks ago are, in many cases, simply no longer on the list.

Who is holding the Round 3 seats

This is the table to read before any other. A large national vacancy figure does not mean government seats are going spare — most of what is left is priced, not competed for.

The states that hold it

Vacancy concentrates hard. Ten states hold most of it; everything else is one row, because at a handful of seats per state the distinction stops mattering when you are ordering choices.

Three things worth doing before you lock

  1. Read both columns, not just clear vacancy. A college at zero clear vacancy can still allot if upgrade movement frees a seat, and a healthy clear figure can come with a thin virtual one. The college-wise table carries both.
  2. Price the deemed options first. They are the majority of what is left. Look up the full course fee, not the first-year figure, before you rank one above a government seat elsewhere.
  3. Order by preference, not by prediction. Allotment walks your list in order and stops at the first reachable choice. A college you would actually attend must never sit below one you would not.

Frequently asked questions

How many seats are vacant in NEET UG Round 3 2026?

MCC's clear vacancy file of 25 September 2026 lists 6,191 seats across 605 institutes: 5,480 MBBS, 597 BDS and 114 B.Sc Nursing. The virtual vacancy file lists 10,808, and 183 seats are new to this round.

Why is the virtual vacancy number bigger than the clear one?

Because virtual vacancy projects what allotment will have to work with once candidates seeking an upgrade vacate their present seats, while clear vacancy counts only what is free today. Nationally that makes virtual the larger figure. It is not larger everywhere: 73 colleges show a smaller virtual figure than clear and 6 have no virtual entry at all, so check both columns for the colleges on your list.

Is Round 3 vacancy lower than Round 2?

Yes, sharply: 11,302 clear vacant seats at the start of Round 2 against 6,191 now, a fall of 45.2%. Government AIQ seats fell faster than deemed seats.

Which state has the most Round 3 seats?

Tamil Nadu, with 1,532. Adding Puducherry's 471 takes the two to 2,003 seats, 32.4% of the national pool.

When does Round 3 choice filling close?

Choice filling runs 23 to 28 September 2026 and closes at 12 noon on the 28th, with locking from 7 PM on the 27th. The result is due 30 September and reporting runs 1 to 9 October.

Can I still get a government college in Round 3?

There are 2,168 government AIQ seats in the clear vacancy file, so yes — but they are 35.0% of what is left and they go first. Keep them on the list and plan around the rest.
