What Your NEET Mark Actually Got in Tamil Nadu — Round 1 2026, Quota by Quota

The same NEET mark opens a completely different door depending on which quota you are eligible for. At 400 marks a government seat is gone — but a minority or NRI seat is not. Here is the whole picture from the Round 1 allotment.

Last updated 2026-08-28 · based on the official Round 1 provisional allotment lists published 27 August 2026 (9,437 seats). Aggregate figures only — no candidate details are republished.

292lowest mark for a govt college seat
271lowest for management quota
182lowest for minority quota
177lowest for NRI quota
The spread between the routes is 115 marks — from 292 for a government college seat down to 177 for NRI. That gap is worth more than any amount of last-minute preparation, and it is decided entirely by which documents you hold.

113 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (104), Private college (GQ) (6), Management (2), Minority (1)

You are competing for the top government colleges in Chennai. Fill them in true preference order — there is no strategy beyond honesty at this level.

600 – 649 marks

609 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (572), Private college (GQ) (25), Minority (5), ESIC (7)

Government colleges across the state are open to you. Do not waste choices on private colleges at this mark.

550 – 599 marks

1,802 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (1642), Private college (GQ) (71), Management (9), Minority (15), ESIC (65)

Chennai government colleges are borderline; district government colleges are comfortable. Put both on the list, government first.

500 – 549 marks

2,891 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (1383), Private college (GQ) (1400), Management (80), Minority (11), NRI (2), ESIC (15)

The government-quota seat inside a private college becomes the realistic target, and top management-quota seats open up. Compare the fee before ranking.

450 – 499 marks

1,706 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (383), Private college (GQ) (796), Management (431), Minority (77), NRI (16), ESIC (3)

Government quota in private colleges is still live in later rounds. Management quota is open at many colleges, and NRI is comfortably within reach.

400 – 449 marks

1,092 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (56), Private college (GQ) (766), Management (128), Minority (112), NRI (30)

Government quota is unlikely from here. Management, minority and NRI are your routes — and BDS government quota is still realistic.

350 – 399 marks

470 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (1), Private college (GQ) (182), Management (139), Minority (105), NRI (43)

Management quota in self-financing colleges and BDS seats are the practical options. Check minority eligibility, which closed far lower.

300 – 349 marks

384 seats allotted in this band · Private college (GQ) (6), Management (208), Minority (123), NRI (47)

Management-quota MBBS is closing near this mark. BDS and minority-category seats are the stronger bets.

250 – 299 marks

269 seats allotted in this band · Govt college (GQ) (1), Management (112), Minority (107), NRI (49)

Management quota MBBS closed at 271 in Round 1. Minority and NRI categories remain open well below this.

249 and below marks

101 seats allotted in this band · Minority (24), NRI (77)

Only minority and NRI categories reached this far in Round 1. Eligibility is documentary — confirm your category before Round 2.

The same college at three different marks

This is the part most families miss. A single private college fills seats through several routes at once, and the closing marks are nowhere near each other. Colleges below filled seats in at least three quotas in Round 1.

Take Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute Of Medical Sciences And Research, Melmaruvathur. Through Management you needed 481 marks; through NRI, 183. That is 298 marks of difference for the same degree in the same building — decided by paperwork, not by the exam.

Across the 25 colleges that filled three or more routes, the median gap was 193 marks. Before you rank anything in Round 2, find out which queues you are entitled to join.

Your 2026 mark is not last year's mark

This is the mistake that costs people a seat. NEET 2026 was re-conducted and everyone scored higher, so every cutoff moved up with it. Comparing your score to a 2025 cutoff list will tell you that colleges are within reach when they are not.

453 of 475 comparable cutoffs rose in 2026 — a median of +30 marks. Before you treat any 2025 figure as a target, add about 28 marks to it.

SC438467+3076 of 76
SCA393432+3775 of 75
ST409439+2454 of 60

SCA candidates felt it most — cutoffs there rose +37 marks on average, against +24 for ST. And the shift is far bigger for MBBS (+33) than for BDS (+14), so a BDS seat has moved relatively closer this year than it was last year.

Rule of thumb for Round 2 choice filling: take last year’s closing mark for a college, add the shift for your community from the table above, and treat that as the bar. Then remember Round 2 usually closes a little below Round 1 as candidates upgrade.

Your community changes the mark you need

Community reservation only bites on the government-quota routes — but there it moves the bar a long way. Find your row and compare it against your own score before you decide a route is closed to you.

The widest gap is BCM: a seat went at 292 marks on a reserved route where an OC candidate needed 456 — 164 marks of headroom. If you hold a community certificate and have not applied it to your form, that is the most expensive omission you can make in this counselling.

There is no community quota in Management or Minority or NRI. Those seats are filled from a separate management, minority or NRI merit list, so the official allotment lists carry no community column for them. If you are relying on a community certificate, it buys you nothing on those routes — what counts there is the category below.
